PFAPA
Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and adenopathy (PFAPA) is a periodic fever syndrome which mainly affects children. Fevers occur every 4-6 weeks with associated pharyngitis, stomatitis and adenopathy (arthritis and abdominal pain are not present). The condition spontaneously resolves in most patients as they grow older. The molecular cause of this syndrome has not been elucidated. A single dose of prednisone (2mg/kg, max 60mg) at the onset of a fever can be effective for aborting a febrile episode.
